English Cathedrals Tour

From 26 December 2017 to 11 January 2018, the choir will be touring England, singing Evensong services at Lincoln, Durham, Ripon, Gloucester, Winchester, Salisbury, Wells, Christ Church Oxford and Worcester Cathedrals, as well as York Minster. We will be joined on the tour by the Choir of Christ Church North Adelaide, directed by Andrew Georg, continuing a pattern of collaboration that has begunin recent years.
We are also very privileged to be accompanied on the tour, in both senses of the word, by the highly acclaimed Sydney organist, David Drury. David is Director of Music at St Paul’s College, University of Sydney, principal organist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and a long-time friend of Pilgrim. He is very familiar with English church music and its organs, having already performed on most of the instruments we will encounter on our travels. He will be an invaluable asset on this tour.
The choir tour is the result of several years of planning, and is clearly conceived of as an integral part of our striving to maintain and enhance the reputation of Pilgrim for excellence in sacred music. In doing so we hope we are better able to contribute towards the dignity, beauty and integrity of the 11am service, enriching the lives of the members of our community and beyond, so that, in the words of Pilgrim’s mission statement, ‘New Life and Vitality will be generated in our city and in its people’.
