We could not have asked for a better start to our tour than our experience in Lincoln. We were able to get into the Choristers’ rooms in the morning to rehearse, which afforded us a chance to shake off the remaining jet lag!
Friendly volunteers Simon and Christine then took us on an informative tour of the cathedral, pointing out its many wonders and quirks. Some choristers took the opportunity to then do tours of the Lincoln Castle, or to wander the Lincoln shops.
Our evensong in the evening celebrated the festival of the Holy Innocents, and was as such a solemn evensong, with incense, candle bearers and special processions. We were afforded an opportunity to sing the introit, Stopford’s Lully Lulla, from the transept, which was an especially moving experience for us all.
The clergy and servers at Lincoln were warm and welcoming, and we thank them for their generous hospitality, and for making our first evensong so memorable.
We finished off the evening at the Wig & Mitre pub for a celebratory beverage!
