At our next Evensong, 5pm Saturday 13 November, we will be celebrating St Cecilia’s Day early.
Howells’ Hymn for St Cecilia was commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Musicians, originally a City of London guild dating back to the fourteenth century, and first sung at an Evensong in St Paul’s Cathedral on 22 November (St Cecilia’s Day) 1961. The text was written by Ursula Vaughan Williams, second wife of the famous composer.
