The Choir has now returned from its January break, after a busy Advent and Christmas season. An early project will be singing Arvo Pärt’s setting of the Beatitudes in our 11am service on Sunday 13 February. Composed in 1990 and premiered by Paul Hillier and the Theatre of Voices choir in Nathanaelkirche in Berlin, it is one of only a few works by Pärt in English. It is dedicated to Hildegard Curth, longstanding music editor at Berlin’s Radio in the American Sector (RIAS) station, which commissioned the work. The Nathanaelkirche has a large 3-manual organ (Schuke, 1958): not coincidentally the organ plays a major role in this work!
