Our next evensong will be at 5pm on Saturday, 10 September, at which we’ll be singing the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in G major by C.V. Stanford.
The photo is of us arriving in Lincoln Cathedral to sing evensong in 2017. It is hard to describe the feeling of arriving in one of England’s famous cathedrals as the visiting choir for that afternoon’s service of choral evensong. There is a sense of excitement at having the opportunity to make music in such a wonderful acoustic, in such a stunning architectural setting. There is a sense of apprehension about the task ahead: the acoustic, the layout of the choir stalls and the order of service are all subtly different in each cathedral: will we get it all right? And there is an undeniable sense of belonging: the cathedral staff are always so welcoming, the vergers so entertaining, and we are really made to feel – just for a day – that we are part of the immense and ancient history of the place, as we play our part in continuing the age-old pattern of daily worship there.
For these reasons we are very much looking forward to our choir tour of England at the end of this year … and also to welcoming you to Pilgrim on the afternoon of 10 September!
