Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols

Our Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols follows in the tradition of King’s College Cambridge in interspersing Bible readings relating the Christmas story with wonderful carols, both new compositions and cherished favourites.

The choir will sing works including ‘Adam lay ybounden’ by Philip Ledger (1937-2012), an arrangement of ‘Es ist ein’ Ros’ entsprungen’ by Donald Cashmore (1926-2013), Philip Stopford’s (b. 1977) heart-rending ‘There is no rose’, ‘Bethlehem Down’ by Peter Warlock (1894-1930), Bob Chilcott’s (b. 1955) joyful arrangement of ‘In dulci jubilo’, Will Todd’s (b. 1970) moving ‘My Lord has come’, ‘Here is the little door’ by Herbert Howells (1892-1983) and ‘A little child there is yborn‘ by Malcom Archer (b. 1952).

Sing along to traditional congregational carols ‘Once in royal David’s city’, ‘O little town of Bethlehem’, ‘Hark! The herald angels sing’, ‘While shepherds watched’, and ‘O come all ye faithful’.
