Will Todd: My Lord has come

At our 6pm Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols we’ll be singing a wide range of Christmas music, both new and traditional.

One of these will be the carol ‘My Lord has come’ by Will Todd (b. 1970): a simple text set using unpretentious harmonic resources, yet with extraordinarily powerful and original effect. This piece is a perfect example of why we find it so important to continue seeking out and singing contemporary sacred music, in addition to masterpieces of past centuries. Sacred music is a living art!

The video is of us rehearsing the final verse of this wonderful piece in York Minster for the evensong service on New Year’s Day, 2018 – but the sound is from the recording we made (with permission) of the actual service.
