Where the King will be crowned

Photography is not permitted in Westminster Abbey, however after singing evensong there on December 30 last year, we were allowed a group photo. The verger looking after us mentioned that just behind the steps we were posing on was the precise spot on which Charles III would be crowned: the newly restored Cosmati Pavement mosaic, installed in the 13th century, at the time the current Westminster Abbey was built (second photo).

Our next evensong, 5pm Saturday 6 May, the day of the coronation, will feature an expanded choir with some magnificent coronation music. Hope to see you there!

N.B. ABC coverage of the King’s procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey will commence at 7pm Adelaide time, with the coronation service itself starting at 7:30pm. TV broadcasts are beginning several hours earlier, however, to include previews and arrivals.
