December evensong

At our final evensong for the year, 5pm Saturday 2 December, we will sing the Ešenvalds Merton College Service. We took this setting on our recent UK tour, and have very fond memories of singing it in Salisbury Cathedral on New Year’s Eve, 2022.

The photos, taken by our choristers, capture various moments from our time in Salisbury. The cathedral is particularly beautiful, set in the middle of broad fields surrounded by the meandering River Avon, and we loved exploring the historic old town as well. Definitely on the list for a return visit next time!

The Ešenvalds Magnificat and Nunc dimittis (2013) is a mostly syllabic setting of the Latin texts to a rich tapestry of shifting diatonic chords and clusters, interspersing moments of sublime motionlessness with bursts of dramatic movement.

We are very much looking forward to finishing our 2023 evensong cycle with this much-loved setting, and would love to share it with you!
