5 January: We sang Solemn Evensong on Epiphany Eve in the quire of Canterbury Cathedral. The introit was Paul Edwards’ setting of Paul Wigmore’s poem ‘No small wonder’, the service setting was the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in D major by George Dyson, and the anthem was ‘The magi’s gifts’ by Richard Allain. Once again, we were awe-struck singing a service in this extraordinary and historic space, the site of the martyrdom of Thomas Becket, and spiritual centre of the Church of England.
