Durante: Magnificat

This year we will be joined by an orchestra at our 11am service on Sunday 24th December – which is not just Christmas Eve, but also the 4th Sunday in Advent. One of the set readings on that day is Mary’s Song of Praise, the Magnificat (Luke 1:47-55).

We will be singing the setting of the Magnificat by Francesco Durante (1684-1755) for choir and orchestra, with soloists drawn from the choir.

This setting is possibly the bounciest, and most exuberant setting of the Magnificat ever written!

It will also kick off a very busy 24 hours for the choir, in which we will sing 3 more services: 6pm Lessons and Carols, 11pm Christmas Eve Communion Service, and 9:30am Christmas Day Celebration with choir, organ and brass.
