1 January: We sang one of our all-time favourite evensong settings, the Howells Gloucester Service, in one of our all-time favourite acoustics: Hereford Cathedral. The anthem was Lucy Walker’s ‘Away in a manger’. There is something really special about singing in Hereford Cathedral: the Norman architecture has a unique beauty, the acoustic is both richly resonant and immediate, and the organ has one of the most colourful tone palettes in the country.
