We got to prepare for evensong in some pretty amazing places on our recent tour of England; none more so than Westminster Abbey. Here we are in an ‘upper room’ somewhere off Dean’s Yard in the Abbey complex, warming up before our rehearsal in the choir stalls.
Now we are preparing for an evensong with another Westminster Abbey connection: it is scheduled for 5pm on Saturday 6 May, the day of the coronation, and so we’ll be singing some coronation music, with an expanded choir. Along with Brewer’s evensong service in D major, the introit will be Parry’s ‘I was glad’ and the anthem Handel’s ‘Zadok the priest’.
N.B. ABC coverage of the King’s procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey will commence at 7pm Adelaide time, with the coronation service itself starting at 7:30pm. TV broadcasts are beginning several hours earlier, however, to include previews and arrivals.
