International Organist Series: Martin Setchell

Organ recital: Martin Setchell (NZ): this Sunday 29 March, 2:30pm

Martin Setchell hails from Blackpool in the UK, and studied music at Exeter University. He pursued further organ studies with such luminaries as Pierre Cochereau, Marie-Claire Alain, Piet Kee, and Peter Hurford. Moving to New Zealand in 1974, he joined the University of Canterbury’s School of Music, where he remained until 2014. In 1997 he was appointed curator of the Rieger organ in Christchurch Town Hall. Martin has performed extensively around Australia, New Zealand, Europe – in particular Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and has also toured to China, Japan and Singapore. He is known for recitals that both entertain and edify, and appeal to a wide audience.
